OIES Podcast – An update on China’s EV Revolution

China’s electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) market continued its incredible growth in 2022, reaching nearly 7 million in total domestic sales. The EV and PHEV market share reached 25% for the year and even surpassed 30% in the final months of the year. That’s up from just a 5% market share only two years ago.

In this podcast, Michal Meidan talks to OIES Senior Research Fellow Anders Hove about the main factors that have enabled China to achieve its rapid scale-up of EVs, and whether it can continue now that national subsidies have been removed. The podcast touches on charging infrastructure, consumer preferences, policy drivers such as carbon and air quality, as well as the role of policy versus other factors in understanding China’s EV revolution.
