Data Scientist
The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES) is seeking a full-time Data Scientist to join its Gas Research Programme. The Institute comprises a world leading independent and autonomous energy research team, which through its multi-disciplinary expertise, publishes high quality, independent research.
The OIES Gas Research Programme focuses on the short-, medium-, and long-term outlook for the global natural gas market, analysing supply and demand, balances, trade, prices, and the corporate players in the sector. It analyses the role of gas in the energy transition, the future of decarbonised gases, the role of hydrogen, methane emissions, and biogas. It assesses the role of gas in the global energy balance, cooperating with other Institute programmes, particularly on primary energy forecasting.
The successful applicant will lead data collection and analysis for the Gas Research Programme, will drive new data acquisition, and support Research Fellows data in their analytics needs across the programme.
Candidate Profile – Required Work Experience and Education:
- Postgraduate degree or three years’ equivalent work experience, with a background in Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or closely related disciplines
- Highly computer literate with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, data collection and analysis tools including API Calls, Power BI, and programming languages, such as Python.
- Excellent presentation, organizational, and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the capacity to work effectively within a diverse and dispersed global team.
