Katja Yafimava
Research Fellow
Katja Yafimava joined the Institute in November 2006. She holds a D.Phil. in Geography and an M.Phil. in Russian and East European Studies from Oxford University (Corpus Christi College). Her most recent publication is a book ‘The Transit Dimension of EU Energy Security: Russian gas transit across Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova’ published by OUP in November 2011. Her other publications include a working paper The June 2010 Russian-Belarusian gas transit dispute: a surprise that was to be expected, a chapter on Belarus in Pirani (ed.) ‘Russian and CIS Gas Markets and their Impact on Europe’ (2009), and a book on post-Soviet Russian-Belarussian gas relations (2007). Her publications as co-author include working papers The April 2010 Russo-Ukrainian gas agreement and its implications for Europe and The Russo-Ukrainian gas dispute of January 2009: a comprehensive assessment (both with Jonathan Stern and Simon Pirani), The January 2007 Russia-Belarus gas agreement (with Jonathan Stern), and a chapter on Moldova for ‘Russian and CIS Gas Markets and their Impact on Europe’ (with Chloe Bruce). Prior to joining the Institute and in parallel with her doctoral studies, she was an intern at Shell (the Global Scenarios team) (2005) and at the Energy Charter Secretariat (Directorate for Trade and Transit) (2006).
